Optical Defog for CCTV Camera is a hardware-based anti-fog technology designed specifically for surveillance cameras, which aims to significantly improve image clarity in low-visibility environments such as fog, haze, smoke, heavy rain, or dust. Unlike digital defog (a software-driven image processing method), it optimizes image quality from the optical source, ensuring more reliable and real-time clear imaging, especially in dense fog conditions.
Core Working Principle
The technology is based on the physical characteristic that longer-wavelength light has stronger penetration — visible light (400-780 nm) is easily scattered by fog particles, while near-infrared (NIR) light (780-1000 nm) can penetrate fog, smoke, and dust more effectively. CCTV cameras with optical defog are equipped with specialized optical components to capture NIR light, and cooperate with image signal processing (ISP) to reduce noise, thereby restoring clear images of target objects from the source.

Optical defog usually outputs black-and-white images because NIR light is non-visible light beyond the range of color image processing chips.
